This collection of scanned photographs are set side by side in an attempt to highlight the duality I felt growing up and how I embodied that in my postures, clothing, and expressions. Many times I felt like I was performing, presenting what someone else wanted to see. As I grew up and embraced my queerness and an ever increasing curiosity around my gender identity I was able to liberate myself from the idea of having to exist within a two-gender binary system. This series of portraits - old and new - are an attempt to collect, document, and share what my own experience has been like in the hopes that it helps another person feel seen, validated, and less isolated.
